S.O.S.H. /V.O.S.H. VISIT TO BELIZE & GUATEMALA

SOSH/VOSH is an organization of students and doctors dedicated to
providing eye care to regions in the world that receive very little if any eye care ever.
Many of the residents in the Peten region of Guatemala where we
focused our mission this year spend their whole lives without ever seeing a doctor. We
raised all of the funds necessary to travel and stay in Belize and provide eye care
services in the Peten region of Guatemala. With the help of Ophthalmologists from
Guatemala City, cataract surgery was performed on nearly 100 patients thereby changing
their vision from barely being able to identify the presence of light in some cases to now
being able to recognize their loved ones. It was very rewarding to help over 3000 patients
in 5 days. We hope to continue these services in other underserved locations throughout
the world.
We would like to thank Maya Mountain Lodge for making our stay
very comfortable and feeding us well.
